Arbitrations

About Me

I qualified as a solicitor in 1999, after a short career as a teacher.  I am passionate about people and helping people to solve problems.  That applies just as much to my legal work as it did to my teaching.

With 25 years of experience, I recognise that sometimes clients get “stuck”.  Points of principle become insurmountable hurdles and fear about the future interferes with the ability to be flexible indecision making.

I took the decision to become an arbitrator, to make the most of my knowledge, experience and desire to help couples move on, using the law and legal processes, but not the courts.

I am an accredited arbitrator for both family finance and children cases.  This means that couples who need someone to make a decision can do that outside of a court system, riddled with delays and uncertainty and which encourages division and confrontation.

Karen Taylor

I use my knowledge, experience and skills to provide final answers to one or more issues that people have not been able to resolve using other processes.  Arbitration can deal with a single issue while couples are mediating, or negotiating with their lawyers, or it can encompass all of the issues that need to be resolved.

I can also provide an early neutral evaluation of cases so that people can make informed decisions about whether or not to argue over points or find other ways to reach an agreement.

And, for couples who are already involved in court applications, but are faced with long delays, I can provide a private dispute resolution appointment.  This gives parties an indication of a likely outcome giving them another opportunity to negotiate an agreement and hopefully avoid the need for a final hearing.

What is involved with Arbitration

Arbitration is a contractual process.  The parties agree which issue(s) they want the arbitrator to decide and they agree to be bound by the arbitrator’s decision.  They also chose who they wish to appoint as an arbitrator, so they can pick someone that is suited to their circumstances.
